Milan is the city of fashion and design. The most important fashion brands have their headquarters in Milano. Moreover, many of them were born in Milan! Of course fashion and design are two brothers!

So, let’s check the fashion museums first!

Palazzo Morando

We start with this historic palace, as it holds the civic museum of costume and fashion from 17th to 20th century! The palace belonged to one important family of Milan and you can also visit their rich decorated apartments, furniture and accessories.

In the museum you can also see the collection of paintings with the view of Milan in different centuries. It shows how Milan was transforming and changing in the modern city we know. Try to recognise the streets of the nowadays Milan we bike on our tour in those paintings!

Armani Silos Museum

The Armani fashion house was born in Milan in 1975 and to have it’s own fashion museum in the city was a matter of honor.

So, for the 40th anniversary of the Armani House the fashion museum Armani/Silos was opened.

Silos – was the space in an industrial area of Milan for the grain storage. In the last years this industrial area started to transform in different workshop areas, creative spaces and museums. Giorgio Armani’s fashion museum is one of them.

Inside you will find the simplicity of the industrial architecture that emphasises and helps to admire the textiles, colours and shapes of historic collections of the Armani fashion house.

Fondazione Prada

This museum is not really the fashion museum, even if it was opened by a fashion house Prada.

Prada Fashion House transformed old distillery building in a new space, mixing the old and the new in the most creative way. Inside you will find the museum of modern design and some temporary exhibitions (check the web site).

Though the most interesting thing there is the space and the way the authors played with the architecture, surfaces and materials.

And the must-do thing in the Fondazione Prada is the aperitivo in the Luce Bar there. The design of the bar was projected by a famous film director Wes Anderson.

Triennale Milano Design museum

The museum of Design in Milan with temporary exhibitions. You can find there events dedicated to fashion, interiors design, furniture design, industrial design. Check the web site for the present exhibitions in Triennale Milano museum.

Moreover, the museum is situated in the Sempione park. Inside you can find a panoramic bar and restaurant with a nice view (see the list of the rooftop bars in our article)

By the way, on the side of the Triennale design museum you can find the Torre Branca. Go up there by lift (cost4 euro) and enjoy the panoramic view on Milan!
